-
A home test could help curb heart disease, the No. 1 killer
-

-
Worried about your cholesterol but too lazy to see a doctor?
- Help is on the way. The Food and Drug Administration has
- approved the first home-test kit for cholesterol. Made by
- ChemTrak Inc. of Sunnyvale, California, and expected to sell
- for $10 to $15, the simple-to-use kit gives a reading within 15
- minutes that is as accurate as those made by doctors and
- laboratories.
-

-
Federal health officials hope that the kit will push more
- people into doing something about high cholesterol, a risk
- factor in heart disease. A report in the Journal of the
- American Medical Association indicates that more than two-thirds
- of Americans with high cholesterol are not receiving treatment.
